{"id":108,"date":"2025-05-02T15:12:53","date_gmt":"2025-05-02T15:12:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/youraquasculpt.com\/blog\/?p=108"},"modified":"2025-05-02T18:57:43","modified_gmt":"2025-05-02T18:57:43","slug":"the-truth-about-salt-and-heart-disease","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/youraquasculpt.com\/blog\/the-truth-about-salt-and-heart-disease\/","title":{"rendered":"The Truth About Salt and Heart Disease"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>Lately, it seems like everyone is warning us about certain health problems that aren&#8217;t actually problems at all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Take high cholesterol and too much stomach acid, for instance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They\u2019re often presented as major concerns, but in reality, they don\u2019t always pose the threat we\u2019re led to believe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One health issue that tops my list of misunderstood topics is salt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For years, we\u2019ve been told that salt is inherently unhealthy and a major contributor to high blood pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"612\" height=\"408\" src=\"https:\/\/youraquasculpt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-3.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-122\" style=\"width:510px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/youraquasculpt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-3.png 612w, https:\/\/youraquasculpt.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/image-3-300x200.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 612px) 100vw, 612px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>But the truth is, the research simply doesn\u2019t support this widespread belief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019ve been avoiding salt in your diet, fearing it\u2019s the cause of high blood pressure, it\u2019s time to reconsider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is little to no proof that eating salt directly causes high blood pressure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In fact, your body is very good at regulating how much sodium it needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your body craves salt, it\u2019s a signal that you likely need it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And if you\u2019ve had too much, your body will naturally remove the excess through urine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Salt, in moderation, isn\u2019t the problem most people make it out to be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But there\u2019s another important mineral that plays a much bigger role in heart health, and many people don\u2019t get enough of it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That mineral is potassium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the United States, with 700,000 deaths each year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But cutting back on salt isn\u2019t the answer to avoiding heart disease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Instead, getting enough potassium in your diet can have a much greater impact.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A new study from the European Society of Cardiology showed just how crucial potassium is in preventing heart disease, particularly for women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The study followed over 24,000 people for almost 20 years and analyzed their sodium and potassium levels through urine samples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What they found was striking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Those with the highest potassium intake saw a 13 percent reduction in their heart disease risk, regardless of their salt intake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This means that getting enough potassium is essential for heart health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Unfortunately, it can be difficult to get enough potassium if you rely on supplements alone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Regulations limit potassium supplements to just 99 milligrams per pill, which is far lower than what your body needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But the good news is that you can easily boost your potassium levels by making a few simple changes to your diet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Foods rich in potassium, like avocados, salmon, white beans, and potatoes, can help ensure you\u2019re getting the proper amount.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So instead of cutting out salt entirely, focus on increasing your potassium intake to support your heart health.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Your body knows how to handle salt, but it could use more potassium to keep your heart healthy and strong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make these small adjustments to your diet, and you could be taking a big step toward a healthier heart.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lately, it seems like everyone is warning us about certain health problems that aren&#8217;t actually problems at all.
